The College would like to thank Darch IGA who presented a donation of $2000 to the school with the request to spend it on something that would benefit students at Kingsway Christian College. The College decided to make the money available to the Library. This donation came at exactly the right time as the teaching staff identified the need to provide reading material to reluctant readers and students with dyslexia and the Library staff has worked hard to source books to address this need.
Mr Glenn Morton of Darch IGA attended a Primary Assembly on 23rd June where he presented a cheque to the College and then had the opportunity to visit the Main Library where he saw some of the new books and interacted with four Year 6 students, Bailey Hegland, Luke Jenkins, Nick Ley and Aloyo Sekwat.
The Library has taken great care with the selection, preparation and processing of books to suit the reading abilities and interests of students ranging from Year 3 – 9 with the aim of enhancing the students’ reading experience. The aim is to provide an opportunity for leisurely reading while strengthening their vocabulary and grammar. Although the results will not be immediate, we believe that it will be beneficial over a period.
Mr Peter Burton, Principal said, “We are extremely grateful for this donation and believe that these new resources will help foster a love of reading and develop literacy skills within our College.”
