School Sport WA – Junior Basketball Championships

In August, Kingsway entered three teams into the Year 7 – 9 SSWA Basketball Championships. The championships are held over a series of ‘knock out’ lightning carnivals with schools of various geographical locations competing against each other, with the top two schools from each carnival progressing onto the next round.

Congratulations to the Boys 1 and Girls teams who both progressed after the first knock out carnival and played in the second carnival against other finalists to see who would be named as “Champion School of the North”.

The girls finished in third place behind Woodvale and Shenton. This was an outstanding achievement as both teams were comprised of WABL players, and were predominately Year 9 girls. Well done Girls.

Our boys won the grand final against Woodvale by 2 points and were named Champion School of the North. They then progressed to the Champion Schools State final on Monday 16 September at BENDAT basketball stadium against the very strong Willeton Senior High School.

Unfortunately Kingsway went down to Willeton Senior High School 63 – 60.

Our boys were exceptional and to see only a three point differential was simply outstanding as the experience and quality of the Willeton team was deep with all 10 players playing at State and top representative levels.
It was also great to see a Kingsway player, Ethan Elliott, named Finals MVP even though we didn’t get the win.
