Kingsway's Rising Golf Stars

by Alison Young | Apr 22, 2015

With the Golf Academy at the College now into its fifth year, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of some of our star golfers.

Sho Momiyama of Year 12 has the lowest handicap in the Academy of 4.9. During 2014 Sho played in the Boys’ Metro Pennants Division 1 Black where he had the winning score on several occasions.
Matt Caulfield of Year 11 is also featuring strongly in his Golf. At the Wanneroo Junior Classic he shot 77 nett 69.   As a result he was 1st in the Nett and placed 4th in the Gross (his best ever Golf WA Gross result). At the end of 2013 Matt’s handicap was 13.  It is now 7.
In February 2014, Matt travelled down south to play in the Kennedy Bay Classic with over 110 competitors. Matt was awarded the 3rd place in the Nett competition and ranked 23rd overall in the Gross competition which was a great result considering there were 17 players in the field with a handicap of 0 or better.
Golf is a great family sport and Matt has a younger brother Zac in Year 8 who is following in his footsteps.

Jennifer Herbst of Year 9 was identified as a potential future Golf WA State Team member in December 2013 and was selected to be part of the 2014 Golf WA Development Squad.  The Golf Development Squad is the first step of Golf WA's High Performance Programme. She was also selected to represent Western Australia in Toowoomba, Queensland in August 2014 as part of the six member Western Australia School Girl Team.

She won a few Nett competitions last year or came a close second in some.  In March 2014 Jenny was selected as the Development Player to tour with the State Squad to Adelaide. Jenny’s handicap is currently 8.
Kingsway Christian College acknowledges each of these students and their commitment to their sport and their many hours of training.
