The Year 5 and 6 students from Kingsway Christian College were excited to see a horse and soldier through their classroom window when they arrived at school on Wednesday 25th March. Phil Sullivan from the 10th. Light Horse Memorial Troop had arrived with his traveling display of uniforms, weapons and equipment used by the Australian Light Horse Regiments, and in particular the 10th.Light Horse Regiment.
Phil spoke to the students for about twenty minutes on the role of the horse and the areas that the Light Horse participated in during World War One. He also did a show and tell on the horse and mannequin explaining what they carried and why.
With the Centenary Celebrations of the ANZAC Landings at Gallipoli coming up in April it was a memorable and informative incursion and Kingsway Christian College was privileged to be the first school in the Northern suburbs to have this travelling display visit. It brought the Australian Light Horse Regiments to life for the students and this was reflected in the many enthusiastic questions they asked.
