'The Closeout' Wins My Big Gig

Kingsway Christian College's Senior Rock Band, "The Closeout", won the finals of My Big Gig held on Wednesday 15th September at the Fly by Night Musician's Club in Fremantle. My Big Gig 2010 had an impressive line up of over forty six bands from schools across WA and after a week of heats the competition was narrowed down to ten finalist bands who battled it out for the top place. The purpose of My Big Gig is to provide students with an opportunity to represent their school doing what they enjoy and to gain experience in performing as well as feedback from a panel of judges from all fields in the music industry.

'The Closeout' is a folk rock band that formed in late 2009. The band combine several different styles ranging from very mellow to more “rocky” songs. With largely acoustic, guitar-driven sound and rough vocal styles, their original songs have a unique quality. The band consists of five members; Ross Conradie (acoustic guitar, lead and backup vocals), Scott James (lead guitar), Alex Conradie (rhythm guitar, lead and backup vocals), Joel Gregson (bass guitar) and Dave Rajendram (drums).
Kingsway Christian College congratulates the five students on their impressive win which includes a trophy, $5000 worth of equipment for the College from Roland and Fender, free recording sessions in a studio, mentoring by The Rock Scholars, and an invitation to be guest artists at The Gozzy Rock Festival in February 2011.
