Making Waves – the Science of Light – A Special Presentation by Professor Lyn Beazley
At our College National Science Week Assembly on 10th August, based on the theme of International Year of Light - `Making Waves’, Professor Lyn Beazley captured the imagination of our Year 7 – 12 students through a colourful, vibrant and a kaleidoscope of images in an hour-long presentation featuring light properties and its applications from micro-molecular to the macro level involving fields of biology, microbiology, zoology, physiology, physics and astronomy.
Without plunging into too great a depth, Prof Beazley was able to make abstract concepts crystal clear and accessible to us all. She was thoroughly engaging and insightfully stimulating – leaving students eager for more as questions spontaneously came in through evident from our post-assembly feedback questionnaires. There were certainly many who were inspired by her, her life, her achievements and how she got to where she is now.
Professor Beazley also presented the distinction and high distinction awards from the 2015 Big Science Competition and after morning tea visited our Science classes to see activities in our Science laboratories.
